  • 6:00 PM 8:00 PM

  • Sheridan Memorial Park (map)

Join us for our upcoming Invasive Plant Removal Events with Friends of the Mississippi River and Mississippi Watershed Management Organization!

We have started a long term partnership to help maintain the river banks along the Mississippi at Sheridan Memorial Park. We will be learning about invasive species, how to identify them, how to remove them effectively and eventually planting native species to revitalize the landscape. We will meet at the Sheridan Veterans Memorial at 6 pm, where the FMR will educate us on the project and then we will start the invasive plant removal. We will provide the gloves, water, bags, snacks and tools. Please be sure to sign up! The river is one of Sheridan’s greatest assets and something that we as a community can work together to preserve.

Adopt a Block

Sheridan Neighborhood Cleanup Initiative Trash Free 2023!

A new initiative that the Sheridan Neighborhood Organization wants to put more effort into is keeping our streets as free from litter as possible. Over the years we have had very successful neighborhood cleanup days that have taken a substantial amount of litter off our streets, but unfortunately that litter builds back up very quickly. To keep Sheridan looking as great as it can, this year we want to try something different. We are still going to continue with our monthly cleanup days, but we will also be setting up a program in which our community works together to keep our streets clean on a more consistent and regular basis. We are putting out a call for volunteers from the community, both businesses and residents, that would be willing to adopt a block near them. These volunteers would agree to do a quick sweep of their selected zone and pick up any obvious trash that is laying around and dispose of it. We are hoping to have this done weekly at the volunteer’s convenience. Take a look at the map and select a section for you to adopt.  SNO will provide garbage bags and trash grabbers for the season! Each week be sure to snap some photos of what you picked up or some images of you in action to be included on our social media and newsletters.  The people who send in a photo every week will be entered in a drawing to win amazing prizes from some of our local sponsors. We deeply appreciate the help and your dedication to keeping our wonderful Sheridan neighborhood a wonderful place for all of us to live!

Volunteers Needed

Can you help Eastside Meals on Wheels deliver? The labor crisis has led to a declining volunteer workforce. How much of a decline? Over one third of Area Agencies on Aging have lost at least 50% of their volunteers since 2019! Relying on volunteers helps us serve older adults low- to no-cost meals and helps them remain in their own homes longer.
