SWOT Analysis

A SWOT analysis is a strategic planning and strategic management technique used to help a person or organization identify Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats related to business competition or project planning. It is sometimes called situational assessment or situational analysis.

Sheridan Neighborhood Organization has put together a SWOT Analysis to help layout the direction of the organization moving forward. The SWOT is a collection of ideas from a range of community members collected at Board Meetings and Community Programing Meetings throughout the Spring of 2022.

We look forward to the future of SNO and how we can better serve this community.

Lock and Dam Tour

Next week, join SNO, the Friends of the Mississippi River and Macalester College for a free walking tour of the locks and dams. The Army Corps of Engineers is beginning to consider their ownership of two dams (Lower St. Anthony Falls and Lock and Dam No. 1, known as the Ford dam) with the potential for dam removal, and they want to make sure that they engage with key stakeholders and community members to guide their approach to considering the future of these dams.  The possibility of dam removal opens up potential for new recreational opportunities and ecosystem restoration, and they want to ensure that as they engage with this process they include your perspectives.

We'll meet at the Wabun Picnic Area splash pad near the Ford Dam on August 10th at 5:30 pm.  The tour is 90 minutes long. There is limited space so please be sure to sign up!

Juneteenth 2022

Join the community in celebrating Juneteenth in 2022 at activities throughout the week of June 13!

Also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, Juneteenth is one of two freedom celebrations held throughout the United States; the other is the Fourth of July.

It originated in 1865 and is the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States. It was on June 19 of that year that Major General Gordon Granger and his troops landed at Galveston, Texas, where they announced – and enforced – President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation, which had officially taken effect two and a half years earlier. Find out more about the history and evolution of this celebration at Juneteenth.com.

For a list of activities visit Minneapolis Parks and Recreation.

Equitable Development Scorecard

This Equitable Development Scorecard is a tool that will answer the question:

“Who benefits from any new development coming to Sheridan?”

This document, created by and for the neighborhood community, ensures that the voices of the residents are centered in the decision making processes, while also building community power.* This document will be used to also ensure that the principles and practices of fair and just development, environmental justice, and affordability are applied in order to serve all who live and work in the Sheridan neighborhood.

Donations

Did you know that Sheridan Neighborhood Organization is a non-profit that runs on donations and funding from the city? Did you also know that the city has greatly reduced its funding for neighborhood organizations?

Have you seen our new donation stickers at Curiosity NE Minneapolis, Dangerous Man Brewing and Nixta? We have began partnering with local businesses to start generating local contributions to SNO. Be sure to stop by these local businesses, shop local and support SNO!

Your donation allows us to expand our ability to provide accessible and relevant activities and services to our neighbors in Sheridan.

We also have a GIVEMN account.

Thanks for your continued support!
