Give to the Max Day: November 18th, 2021
SNO is able to continue putting on community-centric programs and events through donations from our community. Please join us for early giving or on November 18th to support SNO Community Members and Give to the Max!
What is Give to the Max Day?
Give to the Max Day was created in 2009 to launch GiveMN, a collaborative venture led by Minnesota Community Foundation and many other organizations committed to helping make our state a better place.
Give to the Max Day has become Minnesota’s annual giving holiday, raising nearly $225 million in its first 12 years. Every year, thousands of organizations and individuals generate donations and excitement for Minnesota causes that are working to improve the quality of life for all Minnesotans.
“Give to the Max is a celebration of the generosity of Minnesotans and the organizations which make our state stronger,” said Jake Blumberg, executive director of GiveMN. “Every dollar donated powers vital work being done in communities in every corner of Minnesota.”
Early Giving
Early Giving starts on November 1st and runs until Give to the Max Day (November 18th). Donations made during the early giving period are eligible for the daily $500 Early Giving Golden Ticket and the $10,000 Super-Sized Golden Ticket.
That means your donation could be randomly selected to turn into a donation of $500 or even $10,000 — talk about making an impact with your giving decisions!

Justice for Daunte Wright
We at Sheridan Neighborhood Organization are committed in solidarity with the family, friends, and community of Daunte Wright, a 20-year-old Black father who was shot and killed by Brooklyn Center Police on Sunday, April 11th, as well as those holding space at 63rd Ave N and Kathrene Dr. in grief and anger. We condemn the systems of racism and oppression which continue to enable police violence on our Black communities. We are calling on you, our neighbors, to get engaged in the community, talk to your legislators, and help financially support those who have been targeted by the police. We need everyone to work together to end this systemic violence on Black lives and we commit to doing everything in our power to support, uplift, and protect our Black community members here in Sheridan.

Fix & Paint Funding Vote
The SNO Board votes annually to add funds to the Fix & Paint Program, a deferred loan program for exterior home repair projects. Submit comments by the February Board Meeting (Feb 22nd) or attend to share your ideas on how we can change the program to better serve our neighborhood and how much funding should be allocated towards it.
Typically, about $50,000 is allocated to this program, allowing for at least 10 loans of up to $5,000 for Sheridan homeowners. This year, we are planning to open up the program to renters who work with their landlords on the application.
Have you received a Fix & Paint loan in the past? We would love to have your story and pictures of your project, as well as any ideas you have on making the program better! Email sno@sheridanneighborhood.org.
NE T-shirt Fundraiser
We are fundraising to support our residents and neighbors struggling during the pandemic through Northeast T-shirt sales! These raised funds will only go towards costs that SNO is not able to use city funding for, such as rent, bills, food, and legal support.
These shirts were made by local printer DomCasual, see his work on instagram at @domcasual. All shirts are unisex sizing (M-XXL; we are out of size small) and will come with a free Northeast Calendar and SNO sticker! A great gift for the holidays.
**IMPORTANT: Please machine wash COLD and air-dry these shirts. Do NOT wash with heat or dry in a dryer. The red NE may fade or scratch if you do not follow these instructions. Thank you for your understanding in our work to support local entrepreneurs and artists!**
We are asking $20 per shirt, but you are welcome to make additional donations which will also go to the same fund.
Currently, we have two purchase options:
1) Send a check to the SNO office: 1304 University Ave NE #301, Minneapolis, MN 55413
2) Purchase through Paypal at https://paypal.me/SheridanNeighborhood (If you are able to click “send to friends and family” or uncheck “paying for goods or a service,” we will receive the full payment without a $1 fee/shirt)
In either case, include a note with the quantity of each size you would like (M-XXL; we are out of size small), your address for drop off (if you live in NE), and your contact info (in case we run out of your requested size and for pickup arrangement if you live outside of NE)
Example: I would like 1 M and 1 XL shirt, deliver to 1304 University Ave NE, email is sno@sheridanneighborhood.org.
If you do not include this note, we will not be able to deliver it to you! We will be sure to deliver your purchase or get in contact with you within one week of receiving it. Thank you for supporting your neighbors!
The history of the NE Flag
The idea for a NE Mpls flag was developed by local Northeast Bank president Walter Rassmussen in 1973. Walter's vision for a park-like parking lot next to his bank needed a community flag to celebrate neighborhood pride. The winner of a flag design contest was crafted by a ten-year-old Northeaster named Tony Di Giovanni. Read more here.

Support Network Paused
SNO has decided to pause the Sheridan Support Network for a period of re-envisioning. We have received more funding requests than we can manage and are working on a system of vetting folks to ensure that they indeed do live in Sheridan or nearby neighborhoods. We wish we could support everyone, but all the funding we are reallocating is coming from community members, so we need to be sure that we are connecting them with folks in our community who need funds, as we promised.
- If you need masks, please email us at sno@sheridanneighborhood.org and we can drop them off to you.
- If you need supplies, you can find your nearest mutual aid location here: https://twin-cities-mutual-aid.org/.
- If you need support for rent or bills, please look into the Emergency Rental Assistance program: https://www.hennepin.us/rent-help
If you are hoping to help out, we encourage you to check in with your neighbors to see if they need anything (short term or long term), and to bring donations or sign up to offer meals to your closest homeless encampment. Find encampment meal sign up links here: https://linktr.ee/sanctuarymeals.

Request a Face Mask
Starting today, everyone in Minneapolis is required to wear a cloth face mask in places of public accommodation throughout the city. In combination with social distancing, wearing a mask reduces the likelihood of disease transmission.

Visit http://www.minneapolismn.gov/coronavirus/faqs#Masks to learn more about when you're required to wear a mask in Minneapolis.

Envision Community Proposal
Members from Envision Community Collaborative have joined us for SNO Board and Community Programming Committee meetings in Spring of 2020 to discuss their proposal for an Intentional Community Project in the Sheridan Neighborhood. They have proposed this project to be built on the 1720 Marshall St NE property owned by the Minneapolis Parks & Recreation Board (MPRB).
Envision Community Collaborative is proposing a live 2-year demonstration housing 15-30 people in microhomes around a common house living cooperatively as an intentional community. If you are interested in learning more about the details of Envision Community and the background behind our proposal, see the below key documents about Envision and this project:
Project brief: this is the best summary document of the project.
Operating Handbook: learn about intentional community and how Envision will operate.
Cluster renderings: see what a typical Envision site will look like. Because Envision has a modular design, we can expand and contract the number of units based on the size of the lot or reconfigure the cluster groupings to fit onto various lot shapes.
Zoning staff report: read the staff report describing the zoning code text amendment approved by the City Council that allows Envision Community in Minneapolis.
Introduction to Envision Community: read a detailed introduction to Envision Community.
Setting the price-point for housing: learn more about how we set the price point for Envision's housing and our sustainable financial model.
Media links: read the Star Tribune article by Chris Serres and the MPR article by Martin Moylan about Envision Community.
Sheridan Neighborhood Organization has discussed the importance of supporting those experiencing housing instability in Sheridan Neighborhood and the Greater NE area and recognizes Envision Community’s common goal. SNO is currently drafting a letter of support for this project. If you have any comments, questions, or concerns, please let us know at sno@sheridanneighborhood.org and we will be sure to incorporate your input in our work with Envision and the MPRB moving forward.
